Speech exercises

No matter how compelling your story is, if the audience can’t understand you, they’ll lose interest. A cork can help improve your clarity of speech.

Some people speak less clearly than others, and we all experience this shortly after getting up in the morning. You can sharpen your articulation and improve how clearly you speak with speech exercises. These exercises use specific words to train the muscles in and around your mouth. They also make a great warm-up before giving a presentation.

To make the exercise even more challenging, you can user the cork I gave you. In the video below, I’ll explain how it works:

To explain the exercise in the video, i used only the first three words from the list below. For the exercise itself, it’s better to use more. In this order, they’re very effective for improving your articulation. Practise them both with and without a cork:

pots and pans

squeaky puppets

pecking chickens

a pox epidemic

binding bands

flipping pancakes

paying a penalty on penalty day

bit by bit

big brown boots

butter before breakfast

better books than beer

diggy-dag, diggy-dog

tingling toes

tattered tights

pack up and leave

quick on the uptake

the captain of the packet boat

thumbed-through daily papers

cotton bathing suits

Finally, it’s also very effective to make your own list of words you often stumble over or that people frequently tell you they can’t understand. It’s best to practise those with and without the cork, too.
